January 27,2010 - The following are updates on ITT’s Haiti response:
Mercy Corps Cooperation: Five ITT water treatment units and all needed consumables are in Santo Domingo, DR awaiting onward delivery to Port au Prince for use by Mercy Corps. ScanWater filtration units, which work in tandem with ITT’s Reverse Osmosis (RO) gear and a ScanWater technician have also arrived. Matthew Schwartzberg will be in control, once everything is in Haiti.
Employees in ITT Flowtronex in Dallas came together and worked around the clock to manufacture the RO units that are needed to desalinate water since many of the wells in Port au Prince are broken and salt water is seeping in.
Employee Family Assistance
Going forward, HR has identified 12 addresses with 84 ITT family members still in Haiti who will not be evacuated. HR is coordinating with security contractor Blue Hackle (a small team with a vehicle) to assess the condition of these people and to provide them with food, water and supplies for the short-term. The team can visit two to four addresses per day. Some individuals with medical conditions (chest pains and one broken leg) are being removed to a hospital 50-miles away. In the next two to three days all other addresses should be contacted.
Security: Blue Hackle is our contracted team supporting remaining ITT family members, together with ITT Systems for potential contract emergency response opportunities. Blue Hackle has setup a base of operations and has a supply line established from Santo Domingo, D.R. into Port au Prince.
Satellite Phones: Eight phones with airtime have been purchased and delivered to Bjorn Von Euler in White Plains before noon for further deployment as needed. Von Euler has forwarded two phones to ITT Employee Steve Tilder’s church organization for use in Haiti.
Night Vision Goggles: ITT Night Vision has made available 20 units of PVS-14 monoculars. P. Meredith at ITT Systems is working on the export licenses. However, due to diminished need in Haiti, only four units will ship to ITT Systems HQ in Colorado Springs to be staged for further use.
Double Match Employee fund raising
By end of January 24 we have registered 1,156 transactions for $128,560! This brings us to a total of $385,680 including the double match. The double match ends on March 14.
Order!
ITT has been awarded a task order to support U.S. government relief operations in Haiti.
The award is for a six-month base period with up to four, six-month options. ITT’s portion of this task order has a potential value of approximately $13 million for the initial six-month contract period, depending on the specific tasks required by the government. The input to the Fluor proposal drew upon the expertise and service offerings of not only ITT Systems but of ITT Fluid and Motion Control who provided key input on the water purification and pumping capabilities that ITT could offer.
